Task Scheduler will not start

After applying the latest Microsoft security updates and restarting our
server, the task scheduler will not start. When we try to manually start
it, we get error 1053: service did not respond to the start or control
request in a timely fashion.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

This may help with that error.

Schedlgu.txt file.

2. Locate the Schedlgu.txt file in the %SystemRoot% folder.

3. Right-click the Schedlgu.txt file, and then click Properties.

I checked that file and it is not marked read only. I opened the file and
the last entry says:

4.71.2195.6704"Task Scheduler Service" 11/3/2003 8:43:10 AM ** Error **
A failure occurred during service initialization.
The specific error is:
0x80071838: The Task Scheduler service must be configured to run in the
System account to function properly. Individual tasks may be configured to
run in other accounts.
"Task Scheduler Service"
Exited at 11/3/2003 8:43:10 AM

I checked, and the Task Scheduler is set to run in the system account. Any
more ideas? What about restoring the system state from a backup previous to
this date?

Thanks for your help.
