Task Icon disappear in my toolbar

Dear All
My windows setting seems have something wrong. In normal case, when
you open a program, there should be a toolbar "icon" (or button) relating to
that program. i.e. when u click the "button" in the toolbar, it will switch
to that program.
However, for my case, these buttons are disappear. I can't switch to
another program by simply press the button in the toolbar. If i want to
switch to another program, i have to press "Alt"+"Tab" to do so. I just want
to ask how can I recover to the original settings. Thank you very much.
