T45

well this is a pain....
I know that the HP T45 is old, but I recently installed it WITH THE NEW
SOFTWARE & DRIVERS for XP.
I followed the directions to the letter for an XP install. It was a clean
install... no other printers ever on this computer.
Here is the prob...
If the printer is on when i fire up my computer, everything is happy.
However; if the printer is off and I start the computer and then switch on
the printer, it remains "disconnected"... I can't get the computer to "see"
it unless I restart with the printer turned on.
I did all the port adjustments as required and despite checking all
knowledge base articles can't find out whats up.
Any new and brilliant ideas welcome!
thanks in advance

My T45 reacts the same way. IMHOP printers
are high-strung privileged devices whose
designers and programmers think are the
only device on the computer. The parallel
port originally was JUST for printers and is
still considered the "printer" port. Installing
the latest HP drivers was a challenge inasmuch
as the disk which comes with the T45 would
not work on XP and had in-effect four devices
to set up. FAX, scan, print, copy. To me, getting
it to work correctly is a victory. FYI when my
T45 is turned off, the program will try to
connect and interrupt some other programs
when trying. Regards, luck...

yeah... I got the new shiny software disc from HP... specifically for XP.
So this is a mystery... and somewhat of a pain. I really would like to turn
on the printer when i like... not always prior to booting up the
Computer....
ah well.... perhaps someone else out there has the magic bullet

Sure do - buy a new printer, preferably not an HP and even more preferably,
a Canon. Stop messing around with old hardware and save yourself the grief.

yup...you got a point., but in fact, as much of a pain as the software is,
the ol' T45 is a very nice all in one... and I can't bear to chuck out a
perfectly useable piece of gear.
It's the Scotsman in me!

Erm, but it isn't "perfectly useable" - it doesn't work with XP.

I have the T65 and have the opposite, if the printer is on when I turn on
the CPU, then I have problems, turn printer off and on it works OK, My
solutuion, leave the computer and printer on.
