Hi,

After booting, I get the following system error message in the Event Viewer:

Message: The following boot_start or syrem_start driver failed to load: 1%

By following the help, it says " the SPBBCDrv" Boot-start drive failed to
load.

I shall be grateful if someone could kindly help me to fix this problem

You use symantec norton anti-virus . It has either become corrupt, and needs
to be uninstalled, and reinstalled, or you have a local user infected with
something that is attacking the anti-virus app. The more likely case is a
corrupt anti-virus file, since it happens during the boot phase.

Dear Mr. Ferguson,

I used to have Norton anti-virus, but last year, I uninstalled it and
cleaned up my registry from Norton products. At the moment I use the
Bitdefender. You think still there might be some hidden Norton keys in my
registry that may cause this problem?

Yes. And the system tries to load the SPBBCDrv driver/service on every boot, and fails. You should be able to delete the non-existent driver using Mark's advice (using the excellent AutoRuns tool).

Alternately, you can delete the driver manually using these steps:

Click Start, Run and type CMD.EXE {press ENTER}
Type the following command and press ENTEr:

SC DELETE SPBBCDrv

Type "EXIT" to close the Command Prompt window.

Note: For more information on the "SC" command-line in Windows XP, type "SC /?" in the Command Prompt.

Dear Ms Ramesh
Thanks a lot. Your alternative solution really worked. In Autoruns, I found
a Norton Star up file, which I deleted. But it didn't change my earlier
error. So I followed your alternate instruction and deleted the SPBBCDrv and
now I don't have that error anymore.

I also have another start up error: The "SAVRTPEL" serviced failed to start
due to the following error: The system can't find the file specified. Can I
also delete this files safely like the other one?

I shall be grateful for your reply.

Shams,

Yes, you should be able to delete the other driver ("SAVRTPEL") in the same way.
