System Restore

My boy keeps getting junk downloaded from the internet and it screws up the
computer. Allows millions of pop ups etc. I have been using system restore
and that seems to solve the problem. Today though I went to use system
restore and cannot go back to any restore points prior to this morning
11/1/07 at 9:30am. Unfortunately as you might guess that restore point is
not sufficient as he was downloading things last night.

any ideas???

Disown the boy? Put locking mittens on him? Ban him from using your
computer? <G>

I would not use system restore to fix minor problems like this--you never
know when tinkering with the system if something will go seriously wrong.
Instead, try these programs:

Spyware/adware cause numerous system problems. I recommend you download and
use AdAware or Spybot (or both) on a regular basis and consider removing
everything these programs identify. Be aware that there are frequent
updates to these programs and you need to check for them before every use
including the first time.

AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

If you continue to have problems after running each of these programs until
they do not have any hits, then post back and provide speficific information
on said problems.

Hi,

System Restore was not designed to recover from malicious content. Is can
work but should not be relied on to do so. There are malicious/infectious
content that can disable anti virus software and System Restore. Logging
into Safe Mode can also be prevented.

Try logging into Safe Mode and run System Restore from there. If this does
not work post back.

Starting Windows XP in Safe Mode:
