System restore problems

Hi Guys,
I have some problems with my system restore program and i was hoping someone
could help me.
Yesterday i went to do a system restore to try a cure a few errors i have
been receiving and found that all my system restore points had gone, and when
i tried to create a new restore point i got this message "System Restore is
not able to create a restore point.
Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again".
Which i have done in normal and in safe mode and still nothing.
I have read all the posts on here regarding system restore to see if i could
fix the problem b4 posting and haven't found the answer.
I have checked the event viewer and found errors under the sr source and the
description of the problem is as follows "The system restore file encountered
the unexpected error '0xC0000034' while processing the file '_filelst.cfg' on
the volume 'harddisk volume 1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume.
When i click for more information from the help centre this is the reply i
get.
Details
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1
Source: sr
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: EVMSG_DISABLEDVOLUME
Message: The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '%2'
while processing the file '%3' on the volume '%4'. It has stopped monitoring
the volume.

Explanation
System Restore encountered an error when backing up a protected file. This
error causes System Restore to stop copying files and purge all existing
restore points. System Restore will automatically restart after the next
restore point is created.

User Action
System Restore will restart monitoring file changes immediately if you
manually create a restore point (if one has not yet been created).

To manually create a restore point

Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point
to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
Click Create a restore point, and then follow the instructions.
I have also read solutions posted at this wesite
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html and still couldn't resolve the problem.
I recently downloaded windows XP service pack 3 and a yahoo widgets program
for a neon desktop clock and i think that maybe one of these has caused the
problem,i have since deleted the widgets program.
Can anyone help me get my system restore back to working order.
TIA,
Geegsie

If this is a pre-built machine with a recovery partition, go into System
Restore's properties and uncheck the box for the Recovery partition. If
this resolves your issue, consult your owner's manual or information on how
to create a set of restrore discs, in case you ever do lose the Recovery
partition.

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the reply,
Upon further investigation i think i have found what the problem is,in the
middle of my troubles my firewall kept popping up saying that it had blocked
an intrusion from trojan.blusod, which i never gave much thought too as i was
confident that my firewall wasn't letting the trojan in.When i googled
trojan.blusod the info that i got was,"Trojan.Blusod is a Trojan horse that
may download and run joke screensaver on to the infected computer and
disables System Restore".
This would coincide with the other problems i have been receiving,ie,my
desktop wallpaper dissapeared and left me with a blue screen,I am missing 2
of my display settings tabs(wallpaper and screensaver),which i have found a
fix for.
Hopefully all i have to do now is rid my system of this problem and
everything will be fine.
Thanks for you help Doug and i hope i didn't waste too much of your time.
Cheers,
Geegsie
