System Restore

Hi,
I ran System Restore to try and fix a problem with Microsoft Word and things
went bad from there on. After running SR, when I try to open any Office 2003
product I get the following:

Windows Installer Box Opens saying it is preparing to install. It does not
say what it is trying to install but just sits there. If I click cancel, I
get the Problem w/Shortcut window which states the Patch Package could not be
opened. Verify the patch package exists and that you can access it. Contact
application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

I tried putting in the Office 2003 CD but nothing came of it. I even tried
inserting the Office 2003 CD to try a repair/uninstall/reinstall and the
Office startup menu would not come up. When I tried to run setup from my
computer a window came up indicating files were being loaded then just went
away.

I was trying to do SR to prevent from having to reload the whole system but
it appears that is no longer an option.

Does anyone have a clue as to what I should do at this point?

Thanks

Uninstall M$ Office and download Open Office.

Hi Ken,

How far back did you restore the system?

For best results System Restore should be used as soon as possible after
a problem is recognized. What happens is only non monitored files for
any applications installed after the restore point being used will
remain. Causing the application to fail. And in some cases, can also
cause the uninstall and reinstall process of the partially removed
application to fail. It is recommended to uninstall any applications
that were installed after the restore point you will be restoring to. In
this case I would suggest undoing the restore by choosing the "undo this
restoration" in the System Restore wizard. Then address the original
problem.
