System Restore Error

Hello,
I cannot run system restore and get this following error message.
Error: 1075
"The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion".

I have Windows XP with service pack 2 and Internet Explorer 7 installed.
I tried a search on the knowledge base for error 1075 and nothing comes up.
I already went ahead and ordered a service pack 2 disk to see if
re-installing it would solve this but I do not expect to get it for another
two weeks. I tried to download it but microsoft detects it on my computer
and the download does not proceed. Would it be safe if I removed SP2 and
then download it?

Is system restore turned on? When does the error occur? How many restore
points have you got?

Yes, Its turned on. The error occurs every time I go to check to see if its
working. I do not know how many restore points I have.

Are you saying that you are getting an Error 1075 and that when you try
to eliminate using System Restore then System Restore does not work?
Your message can be interpreted as you are getting an Error 1075 message
when you try to use System Restore!

You can get errors with print spooling which generate Error 1075.
Please look in the System log of Event Viewer and see what you can find.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Do you have Norton or Zone Alarm installed?

I have windows firewall and I did go into Event Viewer and saw an event if I
recall correctly was a sr.sys file or something simular which i believe is a
system restore file and I was following other site instructions on how to
handle it and nothing improved. So I got so frustrated and deleted it all. So
now I will have to wait until I get that Service pack 2 disk to see if it
solves the problem. I was thinking of removing Service Pack 2 and then
download it and re-install it. Do you think that is worth a try?

What do you mean by "deleted it all"? If you got into the problem I
found in Google I am not sure System Restore provided the answer!
