System restore doesn't work can't format C:

My computer will only boot in the setup mode. I can't do a system restore
even in the safe mode.I would like to wipe out everything and start over but
I can't even format the C: drive. What can I do ?

You can use the standard method for reloading Windows:
1. Go into the BIOS setup mode.
2. Set the CD drive as your primary boot device.
3. Boot from your WinXP CD.
4. Follow the prompts so that the disk will be formatted before Windows is
loaded.

Why can't you format the C: drive?

Randem

Viruses can have that effect on your system. I just repaired a computer that
had it's AV software disabled and would not allow any system restores. To
make things worse it even disallowed most AV/spyware/worm/malware software
from even starting. I did eventally get a foot hold then remove all
infections but it does take time. You can remove your HD then use it in a
USB or as a slave drive then run MANY av/malware/spyware packages to get a
handle on getting these infections off your computer. here is more info in
