Reloading XP problems

I'm trying to reload Windows XP on my system but it won't take. I don't want
to wipe the hard drive and start over with the restore disks. Is there a
repair feature that I've forgotten about. All I want to do is get windows to
start up. It won't even start in safe mode.

You have to go into BIOS Setup (read what's on the screen and press DEL, F1,
F2, F10 or whatever it says) before XP tries to load. It may take a few
tries. Make sure the first Boot device is the CD-ROM drive. Be careful not to
make any changes that you aren't sure about. Restart with the first restore
disc in the drive and it should work.

As you have mentioned "restore disks," a true Repair Install cannot be done
on your version of XP. However, there is usually a nondestructive
restoration process available involving the restore disks. This process
ought to be fully explained in the manual for your computer (methods may
vary by manufacturer).
