System Restore Crash

R

Rev. Miike Kujawa

Something is painfully wrong with my system
I was doing a restore and 85% of the way through
there was a power loss

My system came back up but very many things are wrong
Java, media player anti-virus are there but not working

Erorrs removing applications, etc.
System restore and auto-update no longer work
so I can't do a normal restore

Is there a way around this problem?
Or do I have to restore from cd's and loss everything

There are multiple restore points saved but I can't get
system restore to run, even in safe mode with command prompt

Hi, Mike.

Who knows what the power loss in the middle of System Restore might have
done? :>(

I'm not really familiar with System Restore, but others here can help with
that. You might need to turn it off, then start it again, but I think you
would lose previous restore points in the process.

You probably will need to do an "in-place upgrade", as described in this KB
article:
How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q315341

You might prefer MVP Michael Stevens' version of the same instructions:
How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

This will completely reinstall WinXP, but preserve your installed
applications and data. If your WinXP CD-ROM is not the latest version with
SP2 included, you will need to reinstall SP2 as well.
