System Restore - Check Point Management?

SP Goodman

Greetings folks,

Investigating the disappearing/non-disappearing taskbar icon problem, I
wondered if making a Restore check point would be worthwhile. I did this a
number of times over the last week. How does one go about the business of
deleting past check points? A 40GB disk that had 19GB available suddenly
only had 7.6, with no ad/spy/malware or viri onboard, and no new installs.
Thx.

Turning off System Restore, then turning it back on will remove all
resore points. Using disk cleanup will remove all but the most recent
restore point. Adjusting the amount of space allocated to system
restore will also affect how many restore points are kept. Turn off
system restore on data only partitions since SR doesn't save this
information anyway. Allowing too much space for SR is one of the main
causes of SR corruption. Keep it down to 1 GB or so. This should allow
for 2 to 3 weeks of daily restore points. SR isn't really of much use
beyond that time frame anyway.
