System restore can not be turned on

Think I know what happenned. Don't know the fix. Recently lost my Maxtor 30
gig HD. Used settings backup and re-installed system on old 3 gig HD. Days
latter COPIED everything to new 200 gig HD .
Can't get at system restore in control panel. When try to access get message
box saying:" An exception occured while trying to
run"C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysdm.cpl",System"
What to do?

Hi Roger,

Try opening System Restore by going to Start - Run and pasting the
following command then pressing enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Does System Restore open?

I tried that also from the dos prompt as well from the run utility. Neither
worked.

Could I try reinstalling the system restore utility from the WinXP system
disc that came with the computer without wiping out my complete existing hard
drive setup? Everything else works so well now.
