That's easy to fix.
Put in correct punctuation & capitals & proof read it 3 times & we can
understand it.
HTH?

By "local cash convertors" I assume this is what we used to call a "pawn
shop". The system was previously owned, sold to the shop, who in turn resold
it. Therefore "buyer beware" is the message. Save yourself much grief.
Purchase a legitimate retail version of Windows XP. If you purchase XP
Professional you can do a Repair Install which will legitimize your setup
and make it genuine without data loss on the system. Or purchase a copy of
Windows XP Home version and do a fresh install. If your daughter has
important data on the drive you should be able to get the data off the drive
if need be but if there really isn't anything important then simply do a
fresh install.

In any event you will need to purchase a copy of XP to make it legal.

Your daughter bought a computer either from a 'bookie' or a 'pawn shop' - I
assume.

"It said" it had a Genuine Windows XP Professional Operating System
installed on it - "it" being... The computer? The "cash convertors"?
Something else? If it was "the computer" - just how did it "say" it had a
Genuine license?

I don't see how suddenly it would come up with "two Windows XP
Professionals" to choose from at bootup. That doesn't "just happen".
Something was tried... Or you never noticed the fact it had a boot menu
with it before - somehow...

If you don't have a sticker with the product key and if it will not boot
into Windows and you do not have a installation CD perhaps with a product
key on the case - then you got taken and the best thing you can likely do
about it - given the information you have - is go out and purchase a
legitimate RETAIL copy of Windows XP Professional from a decent retail shop
(that will be around a while) and either perform a clean installation on the
laptop or attempt to perform a repair installation with your new licensed
copy of Windows XP Professional.

I would suggest avoiding OEM versions of Windows XP Professional in your
case especially.

yea cheers for that u lot i just thought someone would have an idea on how to
recover the COMPUTER but i guess not and i never brought the comp my daughter
did? and it did have genuine wins on it as she downloaded ie 7 and done a
genuine validation on microsoft site so know it was genuine and yes it does
say that its not a legal copy now

We do have ideas on what you need to do to "Recover" the computer. It is
really quite simple and it doesn't matter if you once had a legitimate
version or not. If you do not currently have any restore media and you have
no Product Key then you will need to purchase that first. That is the only
way to get this thing working correctly. When people purchase computers they
need to ensure that they have some way to restore the system in the event
that the system fails.

Once purchased you can do a Repair Install providing you purchase the same
version of XP - which you reported as being Windows XP Professional - or if
you purchase Windows XP Home version you will need to do a fresh install as
one cannot perform a Repair Install on XP Pro using an XP Home version. the
system will then be legit.

Hi,
I was working on a friend's laptop, trying to get the wi-fi to work, after
she had spent hours and hours on the phone with dell support in india. They
had her do a restore of some kind, and by the time i got it, the boot stops
and asked which of two installs to use, one didn't work and the other one
booted the system. Do you know how to fix it so it just boots normally?
Thanks,
mike

With regard to your validation problem:

You don’t say where you live but if you know your copy of Windows has been
validated before, I suggest you don’t get to excited and just keep trying.

I live and work in China, paid $319.00 In the U.S. for a retail version of
XP and validated without any problem in the U. S. Came to China and every
time I need a down load from Microsoft they tell me I don’t have validation
software on my machine & make me down load it. (I have downloaded that
program probably a dozen times)

Then after I down load the validation software, they some times notify me
that I don’t have a valid copy of Windows & won’t give me the down load that
I need. It’s a common problem in China and one of the reasons Chinese hate
Microsoft.

Only thing you can do, if you know your copy is good, is keep trying,
Microsoft my tell you every day for 9 or 10 days in a row that your copy is
invalid, then validate it the next day.

Good luck

Is this related to the OP's question? You seem to have cut-in with a
completely new thread, in an existing thread.
