System File Checker

Gary

I am using Windows XP Home Edition. Recently I tried to
run the System File Checker utility...(Start-Run-
sfc /scannow)...I get a window telling me to insert
the "Professional" version of my Windows XP disk....well,
I don't have the professional version...I only have the
Home Edition...and that disk won't work...I get hung up
hitting retry and or cancel and can't get out without
rebooting.

Why does it ask for the Professional version and how do I
change it to recognize the Home Edition disk?

It is important to insert the install CD before launching the sfc /scannow
command.
Note sometimes the WinXP Home will ask for the WinXP Pro CD, but this is not
problem as long the above condition has been met. Though it might require that
one press Retry several times before the System File Checking begins.
