How are you attempting to access the "explorers". Double
click on your desktop icon to open MSAS and then click the
advanced tools(looks like two gears meshed together on the
right side. Then click on "System Explorers"(person
standing beside monitor) then on the left is a list broken
down into Four(4) categories, with several sub categories.
Click on any of the sub categories like "Downloaded
ActiveX" under the "Applications" main category. This is
the same through out this tool. There aren't any apparent
buttons to click just lines of words and these are what
you need to click on. I've mentioned the lack of apparent
clickable items a number of times. So I hope the
developers are getting the message by now.

I and, from browsing the posts, many others are having this problem. The
explorers section and 99% of the real time protection agents are simply
missing. Just from reading all the other posts of people having this same
problem the only consistent variable that I have come across is Norton
System Works. Many people have asked this same question without any helpful
response. One other bug I noticed, at least for me, even when I tell
Antispyware not to load at start up (since it doesn't work on my machine) it
still loads every time I log in. Just my two cents.

I should have kept reading as this is what I just posted
as well. My post has a little more detail but even after
delete and re-install-same!

I have the same problem. I wonder if Giant had the
same? I'm gonna have to buy the MS anti-spyware removal
tool to just get the program out of my system. C'mon
Billion dollar team...is this the strategy? Sell me the
fixed version that works w/Norton? and for all you
freaks too scared to speak out against the large
company...think about how the company was started! >-----

OK - so you've loaded a beta program, and it doesn't function properly on
your machine?

What's the big issue? Go to Add or Remove programs, and remove it--if you
installed Microsoft (beta) Antispyware from the Microsoft web site, it'll be
right there in add or remove programs, as Microsoft Antispyware. There's a
remove button, and I haven't heard from anyone complaining that it doesn't
work, although it does leave behind pieces both in the install directory and
the registry that some have questioned.

The BIG issue is not having some wise A$$ polluting this board. I have, for
the time being, removed said program. After all I'm not a retard that has
so much time on their hands that they can add nothing to a conversation and
troll around Microsoft newsgroups, thanks Bill for your insight. As you may
or may not know, one of the other purposes of a Beta is for people to try it
out and then report issues they have so they can be fixed in future
releases. This is what I and many other users are doing. Thanks for adding
to the process. The rock you crawled out from under is lonely, please go
back and keep it company.

Sorry for the outburst, having a bad night. But seriously, I'm aware of the
fact that this is a BETA. I personally am not complaining that it doesn't
work on my machine. I simply wanted to make the issues known, and to report
that it looks to be a conflict with Norton System Works. I think the people
that are using the boards to report errors should get a better response
than, "it's a beta, uninstall it." Something along the lines of "thanks for
reporting the issue, we will look into it for future releases" would be nice
for a change. Thanks and happy trails and again sorry for the rant, just
try not to belittle people who are reporting bugs/errors and doing the real
world testing.

Bruce, I didn't mean at all to imply that any feedback here--negative or
not, is unwelcome.

I was responding to Matt's message implying that it was a difficult process
to uninstall Microsoft Antispyware.

No offense taken.

I agree that "it's a beta, what did you expect?" is a simplistic response,
and not responsive to anybodies needs. And I hope I haven't made that
response with any significant frequency.

I really was trying to respond to Matt's question about what it takes to
uninstall the program.

FWIW, and I haven't figured out what to do with this information, another
user, Technogod, reported as follows:
-----------------------------------------
I fixed the problem. When I tried to open Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.
Windows Installer tried to install DAO. I uninstalled DAO. Reinstalled DAO
which is a component of my ATI Multimedia Center. Now Roxio Easy Media
Creator 7 opens without trying to install DAO and my System Explorers are
working in Microsoft AntiSpyware. Life is good again. lol
-------------------------------------------------

His reported issue was identical to yours--missing System Explorers, and has
been posted by a number of other users--this is definitely a bug of some
sort. I didn't respond directly to your message because I really didn't
feel I have any answer for you--but maybe the info from Technogod will help
in some way. DAO is a vaguely familiar term for me, but I can't tell you
where it lives or how to install or uninstall it.

Bruce,

How did you come to the conclusion that Norton System Works is implicated in
this problem?

I'm also experiencing this problem on a system that has System Works 2005
installed. But if your case was just circumstantial, it would be real
interesting to hear if someone was experiencing this problem and did not
have System Works.

When I go to open the system explorers tool, an error message such as this
gets added to the errors.log file.

-2147221163::ln 15:Method '~' of object '~'
failed::GIANTAntiSpywareMain:ctlExplorers:UserControl_Show::1/19/2005
8:19:39 PM:XP:1.0.501

I would think that this would be a useful clue to someone in possession of
the source code.

-Lenny.

Nothing scientific. I just sort did a meta analysis (if you will) of the
people posting to all the boards with this same problem. Many of them off
handedly mentioned that they had Norton System Works. Since I also have
system works and the same problem I just put two and two together. The very
real possibility remains that it is just a fluke and purely a coincidence,
but your post seems to lend credence to my hunch. I removed the program and
cleaned its tracks so I don't have my old error log to look over to see if I
got the same message as yourself. I can, however, tell you that I did
notice that there were new error messages in the log every time I attempted
to use the explorers or agents features. Let me/us know if you come across
any more evidence either way. I too think it would be beneficial if the
powers that be knew about the issue.
