svchost problem

Hello,

I've been trying to remove Zango and several other spyware
programs from a system running Windows XP Pro. I've
mostly succeeded with that issue (using Spybot & Ad-
aware), but in the course of doing so all the registry
entries for "svhost" were deleted. Big, big mistake I
know.

Now when the system is booted, it allows the user account
to login but says "loading personal settings" for about 30
seconds and then doesn't load the desktop icons for
another 2 minutes. All her programs return but the
toolbar doesn't load at the bottom of the screen and I can
only get it to show by selecting "desktop" from the
toolbar properties menu.

Any ideas as to where I should go from here or why it
takes so darn long to load?

Thanks for your help!

Hi:

This may help to restore the desktop icons instantly, as you
logon, in the desktop press ctrl+alt+del and select Task List\
Applications\click on New Task\type Explorer.exe
Restart the computer and see if the icons appear right after logon.

If that does not solve the problem restore the registry entries from
the Spybot backup feature... click on the Recover button and restore the
appropriate registry entries, in the Advanced Mode, go to
Tools\Internal System Parts\and uncheck for Spybot to ignore
in the following scans. Change Spybot to the Basic Mode to avoid
damaging your system.
