I have installed the windows update agent30-x86.exe and KB927891 and itstill
uses 100%cpu. I have automatic updates disabled but have not managed to
install May updates. I have this problem on 6 pc's and is really starting to
annoy me now!

Any ideas anyone???

Microsoft's fix for Automatic Updates lockup not working
Users are still complaining about the problem (Read full article)
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9019218

A hotfix, updated May 10th, is available on the Microsoft support site.
The patch will be pushed out via Microsoft's usual update services,
including Windows Update and Microsoft Update, late this month or in
early June, said a developer on the WSUS blog.
However, the fix can be downloaded here
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=927891 and installed manually
on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 systems.

It's not unusual for SVCHOST.EXE to spike to 100% CPU for a minute or so
when WUAUCLT.EXE (Automatic Updates) kicks in. The problem is when the
spiking continues and the machine becomes unresponsive. If this happens to
you after installing the new Windows Update Agent client and 927891, check
to see if WUAUCLT.EXE is showing in Task Manager > Processes when CPU
spikes. If it's not, you probably have a hijackware problem.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Same prob here..

done the usual update agent30-x86.exe and KB927891 & deleted the Software
distribution folder contents, have the windows auto updates turned off...
yawn... cannot update direct from update site neither as prob remains....

everything was fine weeks ago, I can only presume one of the previous
updates caused this 'now widespread' problem...

This is like a water torture, its getting to me... Grrrr....
