Suddenly I can't receive any emails from Windows Mail or MS Outloo

Ivy

Hi,

I'm trying to setup the email account settings in my new computer. Initially
I was able to send/receive emails (with my installed Mcafee). However
suddenly I can only send, and not receive any emails.

I thought it could be my antivirus software. So I have uninstalled Mcafee
and even disabled the firewall. Still it did not help.

The error message is still

Account: 'pop.singnet.com.sg', Server: 'pop.singnet.com.sg', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I have deleted my email account settings, restarted my pc and set up the
email account again. Still it did not work.

Please help me on this. Thanks !

Regards,
Ivy

After uninstalling McAfee, you often need to run this program for cleanup:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may then need to remove your mail account under Windows Mail,
restart Windows Mail, then create the account again.

You may want to check your account settings:

http://www.singnet.com.sg/technical/email/index.htm

They don't seem to have written instructions for Windows Mail
under Vista yet; this often means that their instructions for
Outlook Express will also work under Windows Mail, as long
as they don't call for the HTTP protocol.

If this fixes your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a
custom install that tells it to leave out the part that scans email.

I have done all these.. but no help too. Very strange. Isit because I'm using
a wireless network?

0x800CCC19 is a timeout error. One possibility that deserves consideration
is that the server might actually be down.

Another possibility is that some third-party program is set to scan email.
In order to do this a program inserts a proxy between Windows Mail and the
Internet. The delay that this imposes often causes the email program to
thing that the server has timed out.

How do I determine if there is a 3rd party program blocking my email..? The
strange thing is initially it worked.. and subsequently it didn't work
anymore. Am wondering if its some windows automatically updating new programs
to my system.

I've removed all my antivirus software. Didn't work as well.

I tried to connect using microsoft outlook, didn't work as well. It prompted
another error message.

Task 'Home Mail - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

What anti-virus are you using?
Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

An anti-spam program could also be doing it. Any program set to scan email.
It wouldn't hurt to use the telephoone to check with your email provider to
see if their server is down. Of course some will lie about that.

Mcafee was installed in my new pc. I've totally uninstalled it. How do I
determine if EML files from the scan? Could it be some windows update which
stops me from receiving email?

I've checked with my email provider and there is nothing wrong with their
server. I've also tried to access my email from another pc (using
non-wireless network) and it works !

Is Outlook also on a Vista computer? If so, the common factor is Vista.
Some older routers are not Vista-compatible. Try this:

1. Click on Vista's Start button and type "cmd" (without the quotes).
2. The search results will display a program named cmd.exe.
3. Right-click on cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"
4. Type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" (without
the quotation marks)
5. Test your POP account and see if you can download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, re-enable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"

I tried to search for the file but couldn't find it.

Yes, MS Outlook is on my Vista computer. Just a note - my Windows Mail
suddenly downloaded all my previous emails. But when I connect again... it
went timed out again.

What happened..? HELP !

Hi,

Alright, I did your previous instruction on "netsh interface tcp set global
autotuning=disabled" and re-setup my email account. Still to no help.

Hi Gary,

Yes.. I've done that to ensure a complete un-installation. I don't think
I've other 3rd antispyware. Its a new computer and I have not downloaded such
software.

Since you did have McAfee installed previously, it may have
corrupted that account. Delete the account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account. Does it work now?

It bothers me, though, that both Windows Mail and Outlook have the
same problem, which would seem to point to some cause that is
external to Windows Mail.

Yes, sometimes I'm wondering if its Vista problem. Now its so annoying, I've
to read my emails using my old computer.

It seems that many people have such a problem but no real solutions have
been provided. Something strange... I've downloaded AVG.. and suddenly my
inbox popped up a few incoming emails. However afterwhich it stopped again.

I can't figure out what are the conflicting softwares in my computer.

I

Ivy

I've tried downloading it. But it didn't work as well. The settings do not
work at all.
Will it be due to the vista problem ? Since XP users do not face such issues
at all.
