substitute index.htm for web maintenance

In Frontpage 2003 I've created a new page to upload as the index.htm while I
perform maintenance. I get messages to the effect that there are several
references to the file and would I like Frontpage to allow for that. I'm not
sure how changing the name of the existing index.htm and the new file to
index.htm will affect the site.

Thanks for your help

You would have to open the page, and then do a save as under another name and then create another
page and do a save as over the current index.htm page.

Hi Bort4653,

I would not change the index.htm file but rather create a maintenace page then modify the existing index.htm page to utilize a meta
refresh tag set to 0 to transfer to the maintenance page.

When you're done with maintenance, remove the meta refresh tag.

In this manner you don't have to worry about hosing over your index page and you have complete control over the maintenance page.

Tip: After you've added or removed the meta tag and created the maintenance page in Folder View | select both the index and
maintenance pages, right click , Click Publish Selected Pages to move them to your host.

Hi, Did as you suggested and it worked like a charm. However, when I
completed the revisions, I went into index.htm file, deleted the meta tag and
nothing changed; the page is still reverting to my alternate "maintenance
page". What am I missing?

Thanks again,

bort4653
