Strange files appearing and disappearing

I was looking for some files that I did not know the name of or even the
extention. As they were supposed to be created today, I did a search for files
from today and before tomorrow. The wanted files were stills from a new video
editor program

The result was amazing. There was 29 files in total and they were all named
ffastun with extention of ffo, ffl, ffx. I did a google on them and that led
nowhere so I brought out the old hexeditor. Most of the files seemed to have
"Microsoft (R) Full-text index format Version 1.02
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp 1990-1996. All rights reserved." in the start of
the file. The largest one was the D: Drive where I have all my programs that I
work with daily.

I have ZoneAlarm. Therein was "Generic Host for Win32 Services" and that
seemingly was trusted and XL warned me that I should not tamper with the
permission to access the internet - however I have cut it off in order to
acertain the usefullness of having Microsoft interfere with my computer
Have any of you any ideas, please?

Hi Børge,

After digging a little, it looks like these files have been left by
Microsoft Office. They're 'Find Fast' indexing files that make searching
your documents quicker. They don't seem harmful.

You can delete them too, but they'll just come back... in all likeliness.
