I receive every day an email from (e-mail address removed),
and my ISP gives also warning that it has a virus:

Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now!
There are dangerous virus in the Internet now!
More than 500.000 already infected!

I wonder if microsoft is indeed spreading a virus or
patch.exe is not a virus or someone is pretending to be a
microsoft???????

-----more info on the e-mail------
This is a message from the WT.Net E-Mail Virus/Spam
Protection Service

The original e-mail attachment "patch.exe"
was believed to be infected by a virus and has been
replaced by this warning
message.

If you wish to receive a copy of the *infected*
attachment, please
e-mail helpdesk and include the whole of this message
in your request. Alternatively, you can call them, with

Microsoft doesn't send updates. You must download them from the website. I
recommend deleting it ASAP.

You should thank your system support folks for checking
your e-mail. The email that you are receiving is indeed
part of the Dumaru worm. See more info at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32
(e-mail address removed)

If it is really bothering you, you might get some info
from the e-mail headers. Someone you know, or someone that
knows someone you know has an infected computer with this
virus/worm and it is sending you and likely many others
this message. Indeed, it is not from Microsoft and the e-
mail can be deleted. Anyone you know that receives this
message with patch.exe intact should not execute it.
Microsoft doesn't e-mail patches to customers. Customers
are requested to use Windows Update to receive patches.

I awoke this morning to find seven E-Mails from
Microsoft, with their official looking web page and
links to Microsoft. Knowing full well that Microsoft
WILL NEVER SEND AND .EXE file, Unless requested from a
Tech, I called the securityu desk at Microsoft, at 6am
MST and they were aware of the virus problem...
