Strange Dial-UP Occurance

Hi

I doubt if anyone can help, but I get the following bizarre situation.

First I use NAV, Spybot, Adaware, and Spyblaster all with the latest files.
Runs of each show no problems.

I have an ADSL connection with a 56k modem dial-up capability as a backup
but the 56k modem dialup is not connected.

Today, I entered an old url in IE of a site a I used to own but is now
closed-down and the dial-up modem tries to connect rather than use the ADSL
connection!!!??? The same happens if I use Netscape.

If I cancel the dial-up, then I just get the page not found for the site.

What the h*ll is going on?

To add - i have all the critical updates installed.

The same happens when i enter any non-existant url so it has nothing to do
with the old site as such.

Hi John,

IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Never dial a connection.

Thanks but that is not really a solution as it doesn't stop it happening
anyway and i like my default adsl to fire up if a connection is not present.

Also if I select always dial my default (which is the adsl connection) it
still tries to connect to none existant sites using the 56k modem
connection!!!

Uninstall your modems completely.. And all Internet Settings, TCP connection
information, etc.
Reboot.
Reinstall it all the way you want it.

This should cleanup anything that could be causing it to dial-up when you
don't want to seeing as you might be wanting to keep the dial-up setup for
some reason - like if your DSL fails or something?

I deleted my dialup from "show all connections" and rebuilt it. Everything
works fine until i set on my adsl connection the checkbox on the advanced
tab "Establish a dial-up conection whenever a computer on the network
attempts to access the internet"

Then all my troubles come back... the modem tries tro connect on any page on
the web that does not exist.

Is it not possible to have a remote computer to automatically connect to
adsl on my machine if i have not established the connection? I'm sure it
used to work.
