Stop network connected/disconnected pop ups?

I note that there is an option in their properties to show an icon in the
notification area... but where can I find a setting to stop the
'connected/connecting' 'disconnected' etc pop ups from constantly stealing
focus just to make me shut them again? Grrr...

Hi
You should carefully check your network connection.
These popups could be an indication that your Network is Not stable and
occasionally lose the connection and then reconnects.

The original post sound like a wireless network problem. Wireless
network adapters continuously disconnect / reconnect when:

1) Wireless router is in constant power problems
2) Wireless networking interferrence from multiplue networks.
3) Defective wireless adapter
4) If the wireless adapter is UBS based, the USB ports defective.
5) PC's power supply is not powering up system correctly. or not
enough for USB.

Thanks Jack,

I know it's unstable, but can't do much about that at the moment, so I would
really just like it to go on doing its stuff in the background without
keeping telling me about it. I already have Programme Manager in the
notification area, so can see when it is having trouble communicating, and
can hear perfectly well from the hard drive whirr in any case. So these
popups are just a nuisance.

Any more ideas?

Thanks for your response.

And:

6) The connection is not very strong, somebody or something
moves around and interrupts the connection by interfering with
the airwaves.

Unfortunately the entire technology suffers from the utterly
stupid design flaw that it never keeps an IP connection when the
radio connection is interrupted for a short time.

You will notice that the pop-up is not your only worry. Another
is that a running data transfer can also be interrupted.

Sorry for offering no solution, just a better understanding of
the problem. If anybody knows a patch or a workaround for this
problem, I'd be very eager to hear about it.

Thanks very much for the handy check lists and additional ideas Hans-Georg
and SM.

I think that the problem with the disconnexions is at the ntl/virgin end of
things in this case, though I have had problems with trying to use a USB
adapter on my old laptop before. On the pc I have even tried on board card
and usb adapter at the same time, but it is the reconnecting with the ISP
that actually takes up all the time and processor power, it appears to me.
We have similar problems on occasion, even when using ethernet leads. As
Hans-Georg says, it does seem daft that the IP address is lost every time
there is a momentary break in transmission or connexion, and it just adds
further hassle to have the pop ups taking over to tell you this when its
plain for all to see anyway!

Cheers,

S
