STOP: 0x000000ED after auto update/reboot

At night, my widows xp computor auto updates and reboots when necessary. On
1/24/09, it did so and Windows would not load and I got the subject STOP:
followed by (0x8738AE30, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x000000000) and
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

I have not loaded any SW or installed any HW. I tried the suggestions on the
blue screen, but i was unable to get Safe Mode. I do not have a XP start up
disk as it never came from Dell.

Suggestions, please! Thanks!
