Still having problem with " ~ " ghost file association

I originally posted this problem on 9/23/06 under the heading "FILES WITH " ~
'" ASSOCIATION" and am still in need of assitance in getting rid of al these
files. Virtually every file on my system has acquired a mirror-image 'ghost'
file with the tilde ( ~) symbol attached to it . These files serve no
purpose other than taking up valuable real estate on my hard drives--they are
the same size as the the functional file they mirror, but are not 'attached'
to any program. If I click on one to open it, I get "Windows cannot open
this file:....." yada, yada, yada. Isn't there some type of "RUN" command I
can use or something in command prompt to delete these files?? I checked
with Acornis, (I use True Image for backups) and they were as puzzled as I
am, and assured me it had nothing to do with their software. Somebody,
ANYBODY, please help me out here. If I have to go through every single one
of my files and delete these things individually it'll be spring again before
I'm finished. (640GB of hard drive space = alot of files!) Thanks in
advance for any and all input.

To delete the files you can use Windows Search (WinKey+F)
or the free version of Agent Ransack.

Search for *.~
Delete them that way.

*.~ = all files ending in .~

Pennywise----Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!! First I tried the standard
window search, which brought up all the files, but the amount of files
overwhelmed the explorer.exe and win.mngnt programs and caused the system to
seize. I then installed the Agent Ransack, and VOILA! It pulled up even
more ' ~ ' files than the windows search and easily allowed me to remove them
from my system, although it took awhile. What can you expect when you need
to delete 72,280 files?!?!? Believe it or not, those worthless files were
taking up a total of 33GB of H.D. real estate. The scary thing is, those
files were just on my C: drive----I still have 3 more drives to go!! Thanks
again---if it hadn't been for your input, I would have had to go through
every file individually and wouldn't have had the system cleaned out until
sometime around Easter!
