stationary?

Steve Cochran

There are some features in Vista that make such easier. I could have indicated a real file name for that font. <G>

cheers,

steve

Steve, using the BGSOUND tag is easy enough (and still necessary
in OE with embedded EOTs/SWFs/cursors, etc.). I used Bill Scott's
"EZ EOT" program to view my EOTs and clicked the "Copy EOT File Path"
button in EZ EOT so I could copy and then paste each EOT path/filename
into the respective BGSOUND tag which made it easy. It's click 'n paste
so no typing is required, for example:

<BODY title="" bgColor=#000000>
<BGSOUND id=bEOT1 src="file:///E:/EOTs/SF_Foxboro_Script.eot" volume=-10000>
<BGSOUND id=bEOT2 src="file:///E:/EOTs/ChitownScript_Italic.eot" volume=-10000>
<BGSOUND id=bEOT3 src="file:///E:/EOTs/BulletBalls_AOE.eot" volume=-10000>
<SCRIPT>cEOT()</SCRIPT>

When I save the OE message back to drafts, the EOTs display fine but
of course they are not yet embedded. With the embedding program,
using only drag 'n drop to embed the EOTs (and/or SWFs), it only takes
seconds to go from the message in drafts to a sent message (and using
the mouse only...no keyboard required).

I do see one small downside to your EOT embedding method in Vista since
the filename of the EOT is named something like: ATT01162.dat ...if
anyone wants to save the EOT as an EOT, they would need to rename it.
Back when I first started in stationery, I had OE4 on an old PC and some or
all attachments, I'm not sure now, were named in the ATTxxxxx.dat format.
I'm sure your method will work for embedding flash also, but the flash player
object (or one created by script) is still needed.

Anyway, I need to get Vista and try all the possibilities.

Regards,
Richard

Interesting that you managed to embed using the <BGSOUND tag.

Looks like you are having fun otherwise. <G>

steve

open Steve, I see that there is no scripting in the source of your reply
from Vista and that is neat. Like many, I'm still using XP and I will be
getting Vista at some point. At least the embedding program also works with
Vista as I now know and the program makes it easy to embed one or more EOTs
in about a second and use them in the preview and/or popup. The EOT
scripting is only pasted into the source and is never changed. I used 3 EOTs
in this reply and used one of the embedded EOTs in the mousetrails. Don't
know if this reply will stick in this newsgroup. I'll find out soon after I
send it.

Thanks Steve. That's good to know. Our server owner who kindly tested some
things for me on his new Vista PC had X-Unsent already working fine without
having to do anything. I didn't know if it was different with a Vista

They may OPEN, but they cannot be forwarded on. Opening them is not the
problem, it is the ability to forward them. I have many .eml stationeries

Unsent, sent and received emails all save as eml files.
An unsent email does not have Forward.

You would have to open an eml file with Notepad to see if it has X-Unsent

Or you will know that the eml file is unsent because after opening, the
message cannot be forwarded.

Ok, I made it this far and even managed to get playing with the script some
to customize it (GREAT job on all of that by the way - loved playing with
colors and different dings for the sparkler script).

Ok, now I need to embed....I've saved it and am awaiting your
instructions...thanks in advance!

Tracy

open Steve, I see that there is no scripting in the source of your reply
from Vista and that is neat.
I'll find out soon after I
send it.

Regards,
Richard

No scripting involved. <G>

Glad you like the mousetrails script, Tracy. It will work with any other
OE stationery script and in preview or popup. It will also work with small
images like transparent gifs and pngs for the mousetrails.

Is the message in your WinMail drafts and do the EOTs display?

Do you have the path/filename in each BGSOUND tag?

Only if the answer to both above is 'yes', then do the following:

1) Drag (a copy of) your message from the WinMail drafts to the folder on
your hard drive where you have the embedding program.

2) Next, drag the message from there and drop it on the program icon.

The message will open in a second or 2 with the EOTs embedded. Then you
can send it to the WinMail outbox. Then it's ready to post or email.

Please let me know.

Richard

Mr. Cochran:
I have been reading with great interest your responses to people with
concerns regarding Vista Mail. I am a 65-year-old lady who cannot figure any
of this out. I just changed from Windows XP where I had finally learned how
to set up the email stationery from the default selection offered (which I
don't see on Vista Mail), and now with Vista and Vista Wizard, I don't see
any pre-established stationery selections offered, and when I try to use the
Wizard to Choose Stationery for emails, it doesn't offer me any stationery to
choose from! Then, when I try to Create Stationery, it offers me picture
folders I previously had, and when I try to open them (i.e., Microsoft Clip
Art Organizer), the system "No images match your search." Then, if I do get
a picture (jpg) that the system accepts (from another picture folder), I go
through the entire Wizard to the end, and when I try to Name the stationery,
I gives me the message "Name already taken or invalid name used..." It
doesn't tell me what kind/type of name to use, no help at all! No matter
what I do, I cannot get the stationery feature to work. I cannot even get it
to take my signature for each email. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrated with
this. Microsoft customer service won't help, Dell (I have a new computer)
software technicians can't help; they don't know the software well enough.
Can you help?

I just tried the stationery wizard and didn't have any trouble.

Do you have options under Message | New Message Using for various
stationery templates?
