Startup problem- win xp

Brendan

I am running XP on my HP Pavilion Laptop. Recently, on startup, the machine
goes from the opening MS winows screen into "Windows is Starting Up"
bypasing the log-on stage. It remains stuck on this page- so I can't log on.
I switch the machine off and try again- with the same result. Any ideas
please?

When that happens to my MSI M662 laptop, I remove the battery and run
it only on AC power, which seems to reset something and gets the
computer running again.

Sometimes doing that doesn't work, so I then replace the battery and
remove the power plug, which the works.

It is also a good idea to create an Ubuntu Linux bootable CD that you
can use to boot the system and then run Ubuntu from its CD.

The Ubuntu Linux download is free from http://www.ubuntu.com/. To
create the bootable CD, you burn the download as an image to a CD
using burning software such as Nero.
