Spybot S&D 1.5 - ages to load

S

Smirnoff

I had a problem with a Smitfraud nasty that Spybot (1.4) could not
remove. Finally had to clear System Restore files and then run Spybot
again to do it.

Went to Spybot's site for more info and was informed that version 1.5
was available.

I duly installed the new version but find that it takes ages to load.

I have a floppy drive and the old version used to try to access it first
(I heard the click) but then loaded immediately.

The new version does the same but takes about 20 - 25 seconds more to
load now.

Anybody have the new version and find it much slower to load, or is
there a setting I'm missing?

(I do not use Tea Timer or IE Blocker).

Did some further checking and it is a known problem.

You can either live with it until a proper fix is available or download
the beta test version 1.5.1.16 which also solves the problem at:

http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=85

Personally, I'll live with it. I'm not into beta testing.

It's normal. Supposedly a fix is forthcoming from Spybot.

I would use Windows Live One Care it loads well into the boot process and I
never even notice it is running very easy on resources.

We've had some programs that search all the drives looking for a file and an
empty floppy drive takes about ten seconds for the system to recognize no
one's at home.

The fix is to leave a blank floppy in the drive.

Yes it does, both on my XP machine and my Vista machine.
It takes about 30 secs to load, but it works ok after that.

The problem isn't the program checking the floppy drive. It does that very
briefly.

For some reason version 1.5 just takes a long time to load.

I find it more interesting that the OP took just 11 minutes to write his
question, then answer it for himself. ;-)

Version 1.5.2 loads quickly.
Many of us haven't got floppy drives BTW.

Is this beta? The Major geeks site doesn't say it is.

Just went to Spybot's home page and it is still offering 1.5.1.15
Further to my last post, thought I'd try ticking the "Search for beta
updates" box.

After the warning about possible bugs, I was offered a beta definitions
file.

There was no mention of beta PROGRAM version 1.5.2.

Sorry, my mistake.

Although there was no mention of 1.5.2 on the first page, when I went
through the download procedure, 1.5.2 is indeed now available.

Must have missed it by one day.

Sorted now, thanks.
