Speed of IE on broadband

I am using XP sp2 on 2 computers, with IE 6.0.29. Both use high speed 5meg
down/2 meg up Internet connection.

On comptuer 1, my main work machine, I consistently get very very slow
upload speed using speakeasy testing (5 meg down, 132K up). Running the test
at the same time on machine 2, I consistenlty get fast speeds (5meg down,
1800 K up).

Machine 2 is connected wirelessly to same router used by machine 1, tho
machine 1 is hard wired directly to the router.

I have optimized machine 1 with no effect. Also, the speed on machine 1
seems to fluctuate to as high as 1600K at night, but is always very slow in
the morning, so it cannot be the wiring to the router causiing the problem.

Any wizards out there have some ideas on what I should look for to get my
machine 1 working again as fast as 2?

Really appreciate any ideas on this,
Mark

Are the two computers identical make and model?
If not,
what are the physical differences in the network equipment?
What are the physical differences in the processor and memory?
You don't give us much to guess with!

If you are wondering about speeds, the numbers, what they mean, and other
info is provided here: http://www.dslreports.com/speed
More info and testing: http://www.dslreports.com/tools

As for the other numbers, what they mean and how they affect you (DSL):

Since you are wireless, you may want to post this issue to one of these
newsgroups (networking gurus hang out there):

Cable or DSL? Is there a router that's separate from the modem? What's the
MTU setting on the slower machine?

See Jon's reply for some testing & tweaks.
