IE Comes up real slow

Michael Kintner

If I am connected to the network IE comes up real slow. However if I
disconnect my machine from the network, it goes into offline mode and IE
works very fast. Can anybody tell me why this is happening? And when IE
starts what does it do on the network that takes it so long to pop up?

This sometimes can be 1 to 2 mintues on a load.

Hi Mike,

According to your description, I suspect certain process to check something
via the network when opening IE . I suggest you use the following steps to
isolate this issue:

Step 1: Clean Boot
===================
Refer to the following article to perform a clean boot:

If your system is win2k, you can copy the msconfig from XP system to win2k
and use the same steps as addressed in KB Q310353 to perform a clean boot.

Step 2: Reset IE settings
===================
Deleting cookies

=====================

1. Click Start, click Search and click For Files or Folders.
2. Type "Cookies" (without the quotation marks) and click Search Now.
3. Delete files in the cookie directory.


Deleting all temporary files
============================
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click Delete Files button in the General tab.


Deleting downloaded objects:
=================================
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools, click Internet Options and click the Settings button in the
General tab.
3. Press View Objects.
4. Remove all the Objects there.



Restoring default security level:
===========================

1. IE -> Internet Options->Switch to the Security tab, select Internet and
click "Default Level"->Clear the Trusted sites and Restricted sites.
2. Switch to the Privacy tab, click "Default".
3. Click the Edit button and clear the Managed Web sites list.
4. Switch to the Content tab, click AutoComplete. Clear Forms and Passwords.
5. Switch to the Advanced tab, Click "Restore Defaults" button and then
deselect "Enable third-party browser extensions".

Clear connections
==============

1. Switch to Connections tab to remove all connections.
2. Click Advanced button and uncheck three options about the proxy.


Removing the Plug-Ins in Internet Explorer:
=======================================
1. Open a Windows Explorer window by right Click My Computer and choose
Explore.
2. Locate the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS folder.
3. Remove all the files in this folder.


Removing the Plug-ins in the registry:
===================================

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows operation system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved.

1. Open the registry and located to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension

Backup the key and then delete Extension key.

2. Use the same steps to backup and then remove third party related keys
under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

3. Use the same steps to backup and delete the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browse
r Helper Objects

These steps restore the default settings in IE and remove all third-party
plug-ins.

If the issue persists, please download the MPS report tool from the
following link and send the result (CAB) file to me. This log file can help
me clarify the computer configuration.

1. Double click this file to run it.
2. After that, please go to C:\windows\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab .
3. Find a file named [COMPUTERNAME]_MPSReports.CAB
4. Send this cab file to me at (e-mail address removed)
