"Specified path does not exist" Error

T

tbjordal

I get a "Specified path does not exist" error when I try to start a
application on my machine.
This happends to one application and the installation script to this
application. All other applications works fine.
When i try "Run as" and choose Administrator or the same user that I am
logged in as, it works fine.This is a computer is one week old.

I have set everyone to have full control, no one has deny.

I have scanned the computer with "Norman Antivirus", and not found any
viruses.

This computer belongs to my boss, so help would be very much
appreciated.

How are you opening the file?
a) from a shortcut icon on the desktop?
b) from a shortcut icon on the taskbar?
c) from a shortcut icon on the start -> programs menu?
d) double clicking on the file name from Windows Explorer or My
Computer?
e) from the MRU used list in the File menu of a program?

I am opening the file:
a) from a shortcut icon on the desktop.
and
d) double clicking on the file name from Windows Explorer or My
Computer.
Both generates the same error

I note your reluctance to post the contents of the
"Target" field in your shortcut. Knowing this string
is essential whena ttempting to solve your problem.
You now have several options:
a) Live with the problem.
b) Solve it yourself.
c) Hope that some other respondent can guess the
cause of your problem.
d) Post the contents of the Target field and get the
problem resolved.
The choice is yours.

Sorry !
I didnt think this would mater since I get the error when I open the
file in Windows Explorer too.
The content of the target field is: C:\TM\TM.exe
The installation file is located on D:\setup.exe

The OS is Windows XP

This was much like extracting a wisdom tooth . . .

Now do this:
1. Click Start / Run / cmd {ok}
2. Type these commands:
set > c:\test.txt {Enter}
net user %UserName% >> c:\test.txt { Enter}
cacls c:\tm\*.exe 1>> c:\test.txt 2>>&1 {Enter}
notepad c:\test.txt {Enter}
3. Copy and paste the contents of this file into your reply.
4. While still in the Command Prompt, type these commands:
cd /d c:\tm {Enter}
tm.exe {Enter}
5. Report the result in your reply.
6. Explain why you run c:\tm\tm.exe instead of d:\setupexe.

Thank you for your reply.

My boss is traveling with this machine. I have mailed him regarding
this, but I got no answer. As usual...
I'll be back with more when he returns.

I am having the same difficulty on a brand new PC (that just happens to
be my Boss' also).
Here is info you requested from original post. As with o /o, this
happens on many exe files but when I select " run as" it will run from
cdrom or from the hard disk.

c:\downloads\tiny term\setup.exe
d:\tiny term\setup.exe

When I tried #4 in your list I got this response:
System cannot find the file c:\downloads\tiny term\setup.exe

Here is the contents of the test.txt:
