speakers on XP

i have 2 boston speakers and one boston subwoofer from my
previous gateway computer.... i am trying to get them to
work with my new compaq windows XP... and no matter what
i do, i cannot get it to work... music keeps coming from
the speakers on the desktop... any ideas?

Assuming that you have the speaker cables plugged into the correct jack and
the power on for them: Go to Control Panel, open Sound and Audio Devices,
click the Audio tab, click the Advanced button, click the Speakers tab,
click the arrow for the dropdown menu below the heading Speaker Setup and
select: Desktop Speakers. Then click the Apply and OK buttons. You might
have to reboot your system for the new settings to take effect.
