space bar adds a dot between word instead of space

When typing an email, when I hit the space bar, I get a period between each
word instead of a space.

Do you also get a paragraph symbol after hit enter? If so, you could try
hitting [CTRL + *] on the keyboard (CTRL + Shift + number 8 on the top row )
