My space bar eats letters.

When I go back and try to edit a sentence by inserting a word and then hit
the space bar it starts to eat the word after the insert. How do i stop this?

Sounds like you've toggled the Insert key.

Insert one way simply types, Insert the other way overwrites.

I can never remember which way is which, so, try this. Type some text, put
the cursor back in the middle and hit space. Did it remove the letter or
add a space? If it removed a letter, hit the Insert button the keyboard
and try again.
