know you fine folks are tired of these dumb questions.

well i finaly decided to go ahead and update to sp2 ,
and sure enough i had trouble.

when i restarted to finish the install my comp. would
not boot back up. after a couple of hours i got it to
get to the windows is starting screen, then the screen
would go black and start booting up again. it kept on
doing this(loop).

ended up having to reinstall xp. my question is ,
should i try to install sp2 again or give up?

thanks much

Hi,

Since you have a fresh install, its the best time to do it. But you should
also make sure the computer is properly prepared for it. Several of the
MVPs here, especially Jupiter Jones, has good advice on how to prepare your
computer for SP2, I suggest you follow their advice. I have installed SP2
on over 130 systems now with no problems. The main thing is preparation.

Does your computer have a prescott processor? These started appearing
after February of 04? If so see this article:

I had problems when I installed at boot and found the
problem was roxio easy creator seven. I removed it and
reinstalled after installing sp2.
If you have rosio seven make sure you have the disk and
key before you remove it or you will not be able to
reinstall.

I have Roxio EZCD Creator 7 and did not uninstall it prior to installation
of SP2. It did not interfere with installation or performance of SP2.
There is nothing on the Roxio website, and using Google, I could find no
other references to any conflicts with Roxio EZCD Creator 7. I assume yours
was a unique example, and I am happy that you sorted it out, but as I
stated, your case seems to be unique.

Just resolve the prescott issue, then SP2.. You don't need the rest of
the updates.

I think his case might be unusual, but I don't know how you can tell
from your vantage point that it's unique. If you *can*, then boy do I
have some questions for you.

N

NoNoBadDog!

I base that assumption on the fact that I have not seen *ANY* other posts
either in these newsgroups or on numerous websites that indicate problems
with Roxio. Yours is the only post I have seen.
