SP2 & XP Professional?

I just installed SP2 to upgrade XP Pro and noticed that
when I boot-up I no longer get the "Professional"
designation under the "Windows XP" on the logo screen.
"Professional" is also missing on the user sign on screen.
When I check system information in control panel it says
the operating system is "XP Professional". Did I wipe out
XP Pro or not? How can I check to be sure I have full Pro
functionality and should I have used a different SP2 download?

No, that is perfectly normal, you still have full pro functionality, it just
changes the splash screen that is all.

This is by default. You do not need the branding on the OS.

This is not a bug, the change was deliberate.

With 4 versions of XP now (Home, Pro, Media Edition, Tablet PC) I
guess they just got tired of having to handle the different startup
screens each time they needed to compile/link a new build of the
OS/Service pack. It takes one more thing out of the test matrix for
all the various builds, since it is now consistent across all
derivatives of Windows XP.

Keeping it simple is a way to save time and money.

NO, it is not a bug or oversight.
It is by design.
Microsoft deliberately standardized the code on that page for the four
versions of Windows XP.

It's neither a bug or an oversight. It was an intentional change to
make all the versions of XP have the same splash screeen. This reduces
development time and costs. See the several posts by Mike Brannigan
from MSFT for the reasons.
