Service Pack 2....

Was running XP Professional on this system when I received an auto update for
SP2 from Microsoft. Ok'd the installation but when system restarted I
noticed the XP logo page was no longer showing XP Professional. It now reads
simply Windows XP. Did SP2 downgrade my OS to plain XP Home? Is there a
special SP2 for XP Pro? If so, why did the auto update feature not detect
it? How do I get XP Pro back? Can I do a system restore to an earlier date
and than download SP2 for XP Pro, if it is available?

You didn't lose anything. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties
and you will see that you now have SP2 installed. All the splash screens
were changed to not indicate if it is Home, Pro, etc.

This is by design. All versions have the same splash screen now. Cuts
down on costs in the testing.

No - but they have now four variants (also Tablet PC and Media Center)
and decided it was not worth maintaining four separate files just to
provide different screens
