Error installing SP2

Hi

We have a Windows xp professional SP2 connected to a sbs 2003 server. I
noticed that I couldn't print any html emails in outlook 2003 lately (plain
text emails printed fine). As part of investigating this problem I noticed
that Internet Explorer will not run Window Update successfully also. As a
way to fix the above two problems I tried to reinstall SP2 from the Network
version of SP2 installation package, but the SP2 install after running for a
while says "An internal error occurred" and "Service Pack 2 installation did
not complete" which does not tell me much. What can I do from here to make
the SP2 setup to succeed?

Many Thanks

Regards

Was SP2 uninstalled prior to the attempt to reinstall it ?
SP2 installation issues are logged in %windir% svcpack.log
and setupapi.log

Was the system updating automatically, from WU, or from WSUS installed
on SBS 2003 ?

The printing issue may have resulted from a previous update.
The Windows Update issue can be diagnosed by opening the
WindowsUpdate.log located in %windir%.

Sounds like OS corruption. Use WFP. Insert WinXP CD and at Run "sfc
/scannow". This will replace corrupt system files if it runs right. Otherwise
a repair may be in order. No use trying to install a service pack if system
files are hosed. It only takes one bad apple and there are thousands of
apples in Windows.

Hi

sp2 was not uninstalled before trying to reinstall. I did not realise sp2
could be uninstalled.

installation is via sp2 network install version which is downloaded on the
local disk.

Thanks
