Your question is very unclear. Are these all installed on the same system?
And what do you want to upgrade to?

If you can't afford to lose the data, make sure it's backed up.

OK, then the messages are clear. None of the other OS's you have are
versions that support upgrade installs. Not all OS versions do, for
example OEM versions do not contain upgrade install code.

You will have to wipe the drive and install clean. If the data is of
value, use a new hard disk, or back it up.

I want to upgrade Winodws XP SP2

What edition?

I have Windows Server 2003 and 2008,

Where? How is that relevant? Are they installed somewhere or do you
have DVDs of them?

I have
SBS 2003 and 2008 and I have windows Vista.

I have windows Vista.

Correct me if I am misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you want
to upgrade to something, but don't have any plan to upgrade to
anything in particular.

If that's correct, it makes no sense. You should never have a plan to
simply upgrade without knowing *what* you want to upgrade to, and,
most important, *why* you want to upgrade to it. No upgrade should
ever be done simply for the sake of upgrading.

I guess I have OEM software. I downloaded it from BizSpark which is for
business owner. Do you I should get the trrail version and upgrade from that
to the operating system I want..

JS, in your case I think I would have to re-install all my ssfotware again
or I would have to back to Windows XP.

Is that true or will what is in the tech net work for me.

Thank you

If you are a member of BizSpark I would guess
that you either receive a media CD/DVD in the mail
with terms of use. Or you download an .ISO and keycode
from the BizSpark web site. Therefore I would think it's not
considered OEM software since your not building computers
but are in fact using the software to help build your business.

Now as to migrating from XP to Vista it's something I'm going to
try in the next day or two on one of my "Test" computers.
If you are not in a rush I post my results to you and my web site.

The trial backup software (Acronis True Image) is used to
backup your existing Windows XP operating system and all
the applications and data.

It's an "Image" of your hard drive, so you could in fact store the
Image Backup file created by Acronis True Image to an external
USB drive, remove your existing Windows XP hard drive from the
computer (after you have created the image backup and the Acronis
Rescue media CD, replace the drive with a new drive of the
same size or larger, restore the image backup to the new hard drive
(using the Acronis Rescue Media, which as motioned previously
should create before you remove the old drive) and after the image
restore process has completed you should be able to boot to XP
and see all you user accounts, data folders and the applications
just as if you did on the old drive.

The use the new drive is to test the migration to Vista, if all goes
well your done. If it fails then you can use the image backup
to restore Windows XP. In the rare case the Image Backup
restore process fails you still have your old hard drive as the ultimate
backup.

Since you are running a business you Windows XP data, applications
are of significant value to you, so keep in mind that not all the
applications
may work on Vista or any of the server software you mentioned in your
original post. So it would be prudent to do a little background research to
see if each application is Vista compatible and your computer hardware
meets the Vista requirements.

First be aware that Vista requires more memory than XP and a better video
card than XP would need.

want to want to do. I am in the process of trying to write some code in .NET
and PHP.

JS, I just installed SP3 for Windows XP and some of my stuff is no longer
working, so I have read how to remove and that is what I will do.

I will wait till I here from you on your process.

If switching from XP to either a server version or Vista, I wouldn't even
consider using an upgrade install.

There are too many apps and drivers that won't be compatible and will cause
problems.

Better to install clean and be sure that the correct versions are installed.

I'd use a different hard disk; you don't need a lot of space so you
shouldn't have to pay more than about $50.

What Patrick mentioned is all to common.
There are many applications that work fine
on a personal computer or workstation that
will no run on a server let alone the problem
of XP software not working on Vista.

Dee,

Yes there is a way to upgrade from Windows XP
to Windows Vista.

If fact the article I just published on my web site shows
how an XP user can perform an "In-Place upgrade"
from XP to Windows 7 (and they said it couldn't be done)!

So read the first part of the article to Upgrade from XP to Vista.
http://www.pagestart.com/upgradexptowindows7.html

You will note that I did create an image backup of my
XP installation before starting the upgrade process.

Re-read her first post, JS. She's wanting to "upgrade" from Windows Server
2003 and/or 2008 to WinXP.

J

JS

I read it as she wants to upgrade Windows XP
and she has install media for Windows Server 2003, 2008
SBS 2003 and 2008 and Windows Vista.

If fact in one of her later replies she said:
"I currently only have Windows XP installed on this system.
I would like to upgrade using one of the other installations"
