SP2 installation woes

Hi,
I currently work as a computer repairman and work daily on computers with
XP as an operating system but haven't struck this particular problem before.
While installing XP Sp2 on one particular system I get halfway thru when it
stalls at installing "xpinfbar.inf", it gives me the option to continue but
disregard that file, which I accept then promptly gives me the same error
message, then when I cancel, it uninstalls the service pack totally! It has
done this 3 times in a row now, I have disabled the antivirus and turned
everything off that isn't required done a clean up of the computer
beforehand etc etc all the normal stuff.
I installed the same service pack I downloaded from Microsoft's site on
another of their computers a half an hour earlier with no problem.
The computer has Sp1 installed and is working normally with no problems at
all.
Its a legit copy of XP Pro on a Pentium4 computer I built less than 12
months ago, it has all the latest updates apart from Sp2.
Any of you geniuses have any ideas? please?
