SP2 and the Recovery Console

I decided that as my XP installation was getting old that I would do a clean
install and then apply SP2. Everything went OK until I remembered that I
hadn't installed the Recovery Console. Unfortunately XP SP2 wouldn't allow
it because my XP CD (pre SP1!) is an earlier version of Windows! Does
anyone know an easy way to force the Recovery Console to install?

Hi

I can't see any way to install the Recovery Console from a previous version
CD of XP. You can use a Slipstreamed SP2 CD or wait until the SP2 CD's are
available.

Hi Dave

That doesn't work with an earlier XP version - just tried it. I had to use
a Slipstreamed SP2 CD to install the Recovery Console.

Before in installed a fresh copy of a slipstreamed SP2, I copied the cmdcons
folder to another partition. I also copied over the boot.ini file. When the
new install was completed, I copied the cmdcons folder back to drive C:

I then edited the boot.ini file to reflect the change, using copy and paste
from the previous one I had stored.

The recovery console works fine.
