SP1a Crash's - Will not Install?

Problem: a. Windows XP Home Crash.
b. Re-Install OS
c. Attempt to Install SP1a
d. SP1a crashes in the middle because it can't write to a
certain directory.
c. Attempt to Un_Install SP1a (not a good idea)
d. Here I am now

My OS does not work correctly, I have numerous directories
on my C: drive that I cannot access - Message = "ACCESS
DENIED" no matter what I try, I cannot change the
attributes, attach to the directories, delete them.

HELP PLEASE??? Any suggestions wuld be greatly
appreciated...
