Sounds will not stay off - MSN Messenger 6

I keep turning of sound alert for when people sign in.
Actually the only sounds I leave on is when I get an IM,
but when I reboot windows MSN messenger's sound reverts
back to all on. It's annoying!! Tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Messenger. Any workout to this issue?
