sound/speaker issue

Updated to XP == had 98, speaker fine in 98 --now can play cd but can not get sound in intro progrm w/XP -- CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device -- what do I do to resolve?? Thanks

thanks for reply -- tried trouble shooter b4 sent msg -- kept going round in circle, may have seen issue/answer & not realized --very novice -- can play cd ok, but can not play sound that is part of xp instructions -- I see CMI8738/C3DX ACI Audio Device in list help --David
