NO SOUND AFTER REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

T

Trish

After receiving the bsod, I reinstalled windows XP, all programs are running
ok except for sound.

It is a Dell Dimension 3000. I have reinstalled the drivers and utilities
disk and downloaded updated drivers from the Dell website but nothing seems
to work.

There is no speaker showing in the task bar tray, in sound on the control
panel there are no audio devices showing.

I know the sound card is in the pc because the sound was working before the
reinstallation of XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right-Click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage"
Then go to the "Device Manager" an see if you have a sound card listed or have a flag on the sound
card.
You problem has all the signs of "not installing the sound card drivers".
Just installing the Drivers and Utilities Disk does not install the individual drivers.

Do you think possibly that it was a failure of the onboard soundcard that
caused the BSOD. In alot of IBM's I have worked with, loss of sound will
follow a BSOD.

Huh? What is "a lot"? One the bare surface, your statement doesn't
make a lot of sense.

I had the exact same thing happen (different brand computer) Turned out
there was a separate cd that came with the machine that had the sound
drivers.
