sound recorder

My computer runs with XP Professional. Recently I recorded music using the MS
sound recorder. Loading the recorder and pressing the red record button
suddenly commes the message
"Annother application is recording media. Stop recording the other
application and then try to record using sound recorder"
I hav no other sound recorder. And even after shutting down the computer
somtimes for several hours it still does not record anymore.
Can anyone please help?

It could possibly have something to do with a corrupted Audio recorder program.

Insert your Windows Installation disc (the one that came with your computer).

click Start
Click Run
In the run bar type:

expand D:\I386\SNDREC32.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\System32\sndrec32.exe

(note: D: is the drive letter corresponding to the disc drive your
installation is in and C: is the drive letter corresponding to the drive on
which your installation is running, your letters may be different)

This will replace the system recorder application with a new one from the
windows installation disc.

And if you want to try, google for audacity. Its a pretty good free 3rd
part recorder / editor. It would also help you resolve is it the
sndrec32 program or not.

Forget the xp sound recorder, even if it works, its so limited why bother with
it..For sound recording,or even video,download windows media encoder 9
series. The software does much more plus the sound recording time is
unlimited.
