Sound Question

B

Brett

I created a slideshow with digital pictures and mp3 music
files. The sound works fine when I play the slideshow on
my computer. However, I want to burn the slideshow on to
a cd and be able to play it on other computers. When I do
this, the sound does not work because the songs are not
part of the powerpoint file. I think the songs are too
big to be "embedded" into the powerpoint file, but I may
be wrong. Is there anyway to create a file (or group of
files) so that the slideshow will work with the songs on
any computer with powerpoint?

Any Ideas?

Thanks for your help,

Brett

The solution offered in the FAQ is to copy the sound files into the same
directory on another computer as the directory on the computer that the
original PowerPoint slideshow was created on. However I don't believe this
is going to help you if you are trying to burn your slideshow to a CD
because the CD drive is going to always be on a different drive than the
hard drive that the slideshow was created on, even if it is in the same
directory. And once you've burned the slideshow to the CD I don't believe
you can edit the slideshow to change the paths to the sound files. I would
like to be able to burn a slideshow to a CD as well. Any suggestions on how
to do this. I know you can embed the sounds into the slideshow, but they
must be WAV files and I am using WMA files. Do you know what software can
be used to convert WMA files to WAV files?

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. ;-)

True. But if you insert the linked sounds as recommended, the links will point
only to the name of the sound file, no path, no drive letter.
And once you've burned the slideshow to the CD I don't believe

Right. And it wouldn't do you much good if you could because surely you'd run
across a system where the CD is E: this time, not D: or whatever you'ed edited
it to. Luckily, it doesn't matter, by and large, if you follow the instrux.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

This is exactly the type of problem scenario that the "Package for CD"
feature in PowerPoint 2003 was designed to address. If you have upgraded to
PowerPoint 2003 and still using your old methods for burning your
presentations to CD, check on the "Package for CD" feature.
