I had to reinstall Windows XP on one of my computers and now the volume
control is no longer in my Task bar. I have the option check in the Control
Panel but I won't come up. I must always go to Control Panel to increase or
decrease my volume. Any suggestions out there?

Did you install the drivers for your audio device?
Is your audio device listed in Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game
Controllers?
What is listed as your Default device in Control Panel > Sounds and Audio
Devices > Audio tab > Sound Playback?

Skip,
In taskbar properties > notification area, is 'Hhide inactive icons'
UNticked?

Open Control Panel and select 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. In the box that
appears check the box marked 'Place volume icon in the task bar'. Click OK
and you should be sorted.

Thanks for all the responses. I tried all the suggestions to no avail but
after about 20 or 30 reboots all of a sudden it's there.
