Onscreen Volume Bar missing

On my laptop, whenever I used to turn the volume up or down a blue bar would
appear to show how far up my volume was turned. I recently realized that the
bar is missing. I checked the sound and audio under "control panel" numerous
times and changed anything I thought might help, but I nothing ever helped. I
have searched numerous search engines for the answer, but cannot find any
answers. I would appreciate it very much if anyone knows how to fix this!

Thanks!

Start > Run > MMSYS.CPL > Volume Tab > Tick "Place Volume Icon In The
Taskbar"

That would probably be a function of the keyboard properties in Control Panel.

Thanks, but I have the volume icon. It's the bar that used to pop up on my
screen that's disappeared.

Thanks, but the only properties of the keyboard that show up under Control
Panel are how fast the cursor blinks, etc. Nothing about volume.

Maybe I should make this a bit more clear. My volume control is on the front
bottom of my laptop, right next to the speakers. Also, the Play, Stop,
Forward, Rewind, and Mute is there. All that works fine. I can also control
volume from any icon perfectly fine, also. The problem isn't any of that.
It's just the little blue bar that used to appear and tell me if the sound
was muted, turned up, or turned down, has disappeared. Many people have
little blue bars that go across like this:
Vol |||||||||||||| I, on the other hand, have a shaded in bar,
like you would find on a bar graph. Hope that explains a little better!

Since it isn't a keyboard feature, it's possibly one of the following:

I. Software could display the volume.

A. Try looking through Display Properties for a similar option.
B. Try looking through the utilities that start on Startup for a
utility with options. Run MSConfig and see if a Startup item has been
stopped.

II. A BIOS setting could display the volume. Boot to the BIOS and see
what's available there.

More things to consider:

I. Look in the manuals that came with the laptop.

II. Go to the laptop manufacturer site and look through the Support
information on your model.

III. Do a Google Groups search on the feature.
